Privacy

The short version: your financial figures never leave your browser, and the only personal data collected is an email address you deliberately give us.

Your calculator inputs

Everything you type into the calculator stays on your device. The calculation is JavaScript running in your browser. Your salary, bonus, RSU vests, pension contributions, Gift Aid, other income and children are never transmitted to a server, never written to a log, and never passed to any third party.

They are not saved between visits either. Closing the tab discards them. There is no account, no session and no stored profile, because this phase of the product has no database at all.

Payslips and P60s you drop in

A file picker on a web page usually means an upload. This one does not. When you drop a payslip or P60 onto the calculator, JavaScript that shipped with this site opens the file on your own device and extracts figures there — either from the PDF text layer or, for scans and photos, via on-device optical character recognition (OCR). The file is never sent to our servers, never written to a log, never passed to a cloud worker, and never sent to an AI provider. Close the tab and it is gone from memory along with everything else you entered.

There is no redaction step and no server round-trip that can fail mid-extract. The OCR engine may download once into your browser; your payslip image itself stays on the device.

Analytics

No third-party analytics run on the calculator. Nothing observes what you type into it. If analytics are added in future, they will use a privacy-preserving provider that does not set tracking cookies, form field values will be excluded explicitly, and this page will be updated before the change ships.

Your email address, if you give it

The email form beneath the result is the only place data leaves your browser. If you enter an address and tick the consent box:

  • The address is sent to our server. None of your calculator figures are sent with it.
  • Nothing is stored at that point. The address is signed into a one-off confirmation link and emailed to itself. If you never open the link, no record of you exists anywhere.
  • Opening the link and pressing the confirm button adds the address to our mailing list, held by our email provider (Resend segment).
  • The confirmation link expires after 24 hours.

Lawful basis. Consent, given by ticking the box, under UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a). The box is never pre-ticked, and consent to the mailing list is not a condition of using the calculator.

What we send. A reminder before the end of the UK tax year, and a note when the thresholds change in the Budget. That is the entire list. We do not sell, rent or share the address, and there are no partner emails.

Withdrawing consent. Every email carries an unsubscribe link that takes effect immediately. You can also email hello@thresholdwise.com and we will remove the address.

Retention. The address is kept until you unsubscribe or ask for it to be deleted.

Processors

  • Netlify hosts the site. Its infrastructure logs standard request information, including IP address, for security and operational purposes.
  • Resend sends the confirmation email, holds the mailing list (segment), and delivers the two consented campaign emails.

We use a coarse rate limit on the email form, which briefly holds an IP address in memory to count recent requests. It is not written to disk and is discarded within a minute.

Cookies

The site sets no cookies of its own and there is no cookie banner, because there is nothing to consent to.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable form. In practice the only personal data we could hold is an email address on the mailing list. Email hello@thresholdwise.com and we will deal with it.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this page

If what we collect changes, this page changes first. The claims made here are load-bearing product commitments, not boilerplate.
